Description

This photograph depicts the background of the large influx of Italian immigrants who came to Sarnia-Lambton after the Second World War. Canada required workers "with callouses on their hands" as it was growing industrially after World War II. A number of families from Navelli chose Sarnia-Lambton as their home.

The photograph was donated by the Sarnia, Navelli community members for the historical project of 1988-1991. The project was a physical pictorial exhibit realized by the Italo-Canadian Cultural Club of Sarnia-Lambton in 1989. The collection was expanded for the publication of "One by One...Passo dopo passo... History of the Italian Community in Sarnia-Lambton" in 1991.

Rights

The photograph was collected c.1988 to 1990. The rights were given by members of the Sarnia Navelli community to the Italo-Canadian Cultural Club of Sarnia-Lambton. In 2016 the rights of this collection was transferred to Italian-Canadian Archives Project (ICAP).

A small number of families from Navelli currently reside in Sarnia.
